Dedicated to serving healthy senior adults(Over 55) who are ready to spend more time living. The name validates you are still very active and otherwise healthy with the ability to live independent of any required skilled care. The amenities range from “A lift to the market, too exercise classes”, may include other things like a clubhouse, yard maintenance, housekeeping and security. Many places also offer transportation to physician appointments, laundry service and meals along with other social and cultural activates.

Personal help with daily activities like bathing, dressing, and medications (plus other amenities).

Slightly different from independent living as it implies, more assistance is available than the independent living community. These communities offer more assistant to seniors who still want to live independent but need some assistance with individual needs or activities of daily living(ADL’s).    Individuals want to continue with a high level of independence but need some assistive services involving their specific lifestyle and care needs. Services may include daily meals, dressing, bathing, medication assistance, transportation and mobility assistance when necessary.

Today’s Assisted Living properties have a number of standardized services included. Many assisted living will have a menu of extra items that can be purchased, such as laundry, tuck in service or housekeeping.

A retirement community is a residential community or housing complex designed for older adults who are generally able to care for themselves; however, assistance from home care agencies is allowed in some communities, and activities and socialization opportunities are often provided. In these communities you can choose any number of support services from an established menu of amenities or none at all. Some of the characteristics typically are: the community must be age-restricted or age-qualified, residents must be partially or fully retired, and the community offers shared services or amenities.

A personal care home is a private residence that offers personal care services, assistance and supervision to four or more persons. Personal care homes offer a smaller, more intimate setting, ideal for persons who might not do well with the larger assisted living facilities. The patient to staff ratio is supper high, less than 6 (patient) to 1 (caregiver), where as in a nursing home it can be as high as 30 to 1.  Many times, for additional cost, you can request a private room and furnish it with personal belongings.

Memory care, often with medical staff, for dementia patients

Memory care is a long-term residential care arrangement specially designed for residents with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, and other cognitive impairments. Also known as Alzheimer’s care or dementia care, memory care is often provided within a separate section of an assisted living community or skilled nursing facility. There are many Memory Care proprieties solely dedicated to the Alzheimer, Dementia patient.

Nursing homes provide a higher level of care for individuals who are no longer able to independently continue certain levels of self-care. The decline in self-care management can range for inability to do activities of daily living (ADL’s) to managing medication, to no longer being capable of living independent and safe in their home. Today’s nursing home has evolved to be more patient focused and lifestyle friendly than ever before. Some nursing homes are set up like a hospital. The staff provides medical care, as well as physical, speech, and occupational therapy when needed.
